Weekend wrap-up

Posted Aug 29, 2008 in Beer, Beer Pairings, Breweries, Coming Soon, Cooking with Beer, Goings on, In the news, Sports

Join us for the Ommegang Dinner tonight with Asheville Tourists as they take on the Greenville Drive. Event starts pre-game with a reception at 5:30. $50/pp, including a FREE Ommegang ballcap, FREE Ommegang glass, game admission, and a five-course menu!

Terrapin is coming out with a variety 12-pack
It’s true! Terrapin is also adding a new beer addition called Sun Ray, a wheat beer—for now, only available in the mixed packs. (Sun Ray will be available in sixers by spring ’09.) Now we’ll see if we actually end-up with any of these 12-packs. Speaking of, if you haven’t tried the barrel-aged Rye Squared, it may still be on upstairs at the Pinthouse.

Founders, Founders, Founders, Founders
Everyone’s talking about it, the arrival of Founders Brewing. No bottles yet, however, it seems that the Flying Saucer in Raleigh already has Dirty Bastard and Breakfast Stout on tap. Pretty hefty choices for warm weather.

From the Incredibly Stupid Department
An Iowa community college president stepped down after photos of him pouring beer directly into a woman’s mouth from a mini-keg surfaced online. Way to go! If I got $400K severance for every time I did something stupid, I’d be rich! Damn you, digital cameras!

Mumpower’s son clocked someone at Wild Wings
You just have to read it.

Brewing at the ballpark

We’ve finally gotten to downloading some photos from the camera this week. Check out Adam and Missy Reinke of MALT brewing at the ballpark! (He made a Gaelic Ale clone and we can’t wait to try it.) Perhaps we were the first to ever brew at McCormick Field?

Friday night is our final event with the Asheville Tourists this year. Join us for the Ommegang Dinner at McCormick Field!

Well, hello, there!

This half of Bruisin’ Ales is back and relaxed from vacationing on the lake with Mary and D-Fly. It was the first trip back to Bama since we opened the store, and whew, it’s hot there in August! We nearly forgot, living up here in our dryer, higher climate. Alabama is a lovely state, though. It gets a bad rap. (And bad beer, but you can help.)

Friday with the Tourists
So, this week is Beer 101: Beer Basics at the ballpark with the Asheville Tourists. Tickets are still available at Bruisin’ Ales or McCormick Field. Event is pre-game, starting at 5:30, through the second or third inning (depending). Full details here. Your ticket includes hors d’ouvres and entry to the game. Great beer line-up! And MALT will be demonstrating how to brew, if you’re curious about that.

Fundraising
We still need another $440 in our pledge to Bruisin’ Ales charity, Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway on Facebook. Will you help and join the cause? The goal is $500 by August 31.

A happy ending?
While this is old news during the hiatus, the Pisgah Pale Ale name “problem” seems to be fixed with the introduction of Old School Pale Ale at Asheville Pizza & Brewing. Seriously, we’re so glad that’s over. If it is, anyway.
