Yes, we know it’s tomorrow, but as most of you will be picnicking, boating, hiking, swimming, rafting, tubing or barbecuing tomorrow, we thought we’d just wish you a Happy Fourth of July right now! Bruisin’ Ales will be open regular hours today, 12-9pm and 12-4pm tomorrow. (Just in case you forget your beer today.) Right now, we’re being grumpy watching everyone’s plans on Twitter and Facebook, so come in and see us and say hi! In not-quite-Loverboy fashion, we’re “working for the weekend.” Do I get a snazzy headband with that? Pleather pants?

A few more things are coming in today—yay! [EDIT: There's more!]

A deluge of new beers are here!

Keeping up with the new beers is practically a full-time job in itself. We let it go for one week—one week—and look what happens. Oy.

One of the most exciting things to happen in awhile: Reaper Ales. Very cool little line of brews, all with a death theme of course. Beers for vampires, goths, and other-worldly folk. From Cali, Reaper Ales are made in Lake Elsinore, which in itself sounds kinda creepy, no? So, I guess we welcome death to the shelves this week. That seems wrong.

AVERY “Sixteen” Anniversary Ale*
BALLAST POINT Sculpin Double IPA* (very limited!)
BELHAVEN Scottish Stout
BOULDER BREWING Flashback Anniversary Ale*
BOULDER BREWING Singletrack*
BISON BREWING (ORGANIC) Honey Basil
BISON BREWING (ORGANIC) Single-hop Willamette IPA
DOGFISH HEAD Sah’Tea* (very limited!)
GRADO PLATO Chocarrubaca
HOPPIN’ FROG Out-of-Kilter Scottish Ale

tibir-label

We’re going to just bust right out of this place if we’re not careful! We got another big and very, very special order—beers for the non-faint-of-heart, the curious, the adventurous.

The Belgian styles we’re most excited about are Switzerland’s BFM special barrel-aged releases of Abbaye Saint Bon-Chien, a Biere de Garde aged in Trousseau wine casks; the Dansk Mjod Old Danish Braggot (an 18th century recipe with hops, honey and ginger!); the Italian Montegioco Tibir (sparkling beer made with Timorasso grapes); Fantome Chocolat (saison with cocoa and chili pepper); and another brilliant Teo Musso creation, Le Baladin Al-Iksir (made with whisky yeast). Holy geez. There are plenty of goodies here to give your palatte a big, fat party. And, of course, Demon Hunter is back! Nothing says love quite like a beer with a severed head on the label!

On the domestic side, not much this week, but we’re psyched up about getting Atwater from Detroit, MI. VoodooVator, baby, yeah! And, look: Avery Brewing has a new website. The ‘09 Samael’s is here—strong, malty, and sweet.

Atwater Block Cherry Stout
Atwater Block Voodoo Vator Doppelbock

Avery Samael’s 2009
BFM Abbaye Saint Bon-Chien ‘06
BFM Bon-Chien Trousseau #3
BFM Bon-Chien Trousseau #5

Dansk Mjod Old Danish Braggot
Del Ducato Verdi Stout (Imperial Stout with hot chilis)
Fantome Black Ghost (Belgian stout)
Fantome Chocolat (Saison with cocoa and chili pepper)
Hoffstetten Granitbock
Italiano Cassisona (made with currants)
Le Baladin Al-Iksir
Limfjords Porter (smoked malt and licorice)
Montegioco Demon Hunter
Montegioco Rex Grue (amber ale with Clary sage)
Montegioco Tibir (sparkling ale with Timorasso grapes and pear)
Terrapin 90 Shelling
Torbata Almond 22 (ale with honey and peat-smoked malt)

Things we see and hear

The NC Beer Map has arrived
If you’re traveling to the area, have folks traveling to the area or just need one for yourself in case you get lost, The NC Beer Map is here! Still a work in progress, this is very, very cool to start. We’ve got a lot of beer, y’all! Printable version here.

No tastings for two weeks (sorry)
We’re punishing you. Just kidding! There will be no tastings until June 18 with Allagash. The Bruisin’ crew needs some time off in order to get some work done on our soon-to-be snazzy web relaunch. You heard it here first. Word on the street is that it’s going to rock. Stay tuned.

Terrapin’s Side Project: 90 Shelling
The 6th in the series, 90 Shelling Scotch Ale, arrives today. From their website: “The Terrapin ‘90 Shelling’ gets it name from traditional scotch ales that used numbers and then the word “Shilling” to indicate the alcohol content in the beer. For example a 120 shilling scotch ale would have more alcohol than a 90 shilling would. I used the word “Shelling” instead to pay homage to the turtle. This beer has a wonderfully malty aroma and a huge body the compliments a very smooth, velvety mouth feels. I used a touch of English East Kent Golding hops to balance out the sweetness of this fine elixir.” It was on-tap at The Thirsty Monk last week. Go try it.

Sweetwater’s “Dank Tank”
The brewery from Georgia has started a new series called The Dank Tank that will be packaged in 22oz bottles. Looks like Donkey Punch, the distastefully named, but super delicious barleywine, will be the first release. This is when we all cross our fingers and hope these make it to WNC! Commence.

We’re excited for Bama
The Magic City Brew Fest in Birmingham, Alabama, is going to be a whole new beast this year, now that Bama has joined the Beer Nation and freed its hops. And let me just say that Sloss Furnace is a very creepy and interesting place to hang out.
