Volunteer at LAAFF!

Filed under: Beer Art, Coolness, Events, Goings on, People, Weird/Odd — Posted by Julie @ 1:08 pm

From the inbox today:

As you should all know, LAAFF is around the corner. We want you to prove your love of LAAFF and get into the action. We know you love to go to a free street festival and drink cheap beer and ogle the freaks (or be ogled, respectively)… in order to give you what you love, we need people.Thats right, you get to be part of the itneractive fun, the hydrating people you love fun and the sitting in the shade in the Arts2People tent fun. Why should you help?
Arts2People is a not for profit organization that has been kicking ass in Asheville for a decade and has brought things like the Asheville Mural Project, Pritchard Parks Cultural Arts Progam and um… oh yeah, LAAFF to the town. Not only that, but Arts 2 People has taken various important projects under its wings such as Faces of Asheville and Moving Women and has helped other artists and artist groups through funding or mentorship. Arts2People has been empowering artists for a solid decade and this is your chance to act like you love Asheville for all its spunky funk and give 2 or more hours of your time.

If you Love LAAFF , prove it and give us a couple of hours (or more!). Not only is it a great way to meet other freaky minded people, its also a great way to score a cool shirt, and some adult beverage coupons, on top of whatever perks we cook up at the last minute (those are the best ones).

Contact Torva at 828 808 0270 or email her at Torvawench@gmail.com to sign up.

Bele Chere wrap-up

Filed under: Beer, Breweries, Coolness, Goings on, Limited Release, People, Rarerities — Posted by Julie @ 12:48 pm

So, the wrap up now? On Thursday? Well, yes. We’ve been busy doing things that keep you busy. The festival was okay and we ran into a bunch of people. Here are our shout-outs and thank-you’s:

Tyler, of Tyler’s Tap Room, was up in Asheville “to get away” and accidentally came face-to-face with Bele Chere. We took him to all the hot spots and had a major hike in the meantime. He loved Green Man IPA, which is on cask right now at Dirty Jack’s. (Get there!) Anyway, Tyler is a great guy and it was nice to give him the low-down on the burgeoning beer scene.

The Boys from Mobile, Alabama came a-visitin’ and we think they stopped by almost every day they were in town. We are seriously very moved by the folks who drive so far to get good beer. One of them called the store Xanadu, which later caused unwanted daydreams about Olivia Newton-John, rollerskates, and Greek muses. Ah, childhood.

Virgil, on his second trip to Bruisin’ Ales, wasted no time in his pick-up. And he brought us a ‘08 Three Floyds Dark Lord. Thanks, Virgil!

Finally, the folks from Cary, who brought us some IPA from Carolina Brewing Company—not the Carolina Blonde people, but the one way out there in Holly Springs, NC. It’s solid. Even better, their daughter was wearing a Delirium t-shirt signed by Alain himself! How cool is that? We sent her on her way with a beerlanthropy t-shirt, so if you see a little girl wearing our tee, do not be alarmed. It was approved by the parents.

Bele Chere: Yes, we’re open. Limited hours.

Filed under: Beer, Events, Goings on — Posted by Julie @ 2:20 pm

Love or hate it, it’s here! The 30th Bele Chere weekend.

If you didn’t notice at the top up there, we are open limited hours for Bele Chere this weekend—12-5pm on both Friday and Saturday. Support your local breweries at the tent in Pack Square (at least that’s where it was last year), but come on down for a cold one. If you are at the festival and planning to have your brew on the street, you are required to have a wristband.

We will also have bottles of Blue Moon Water for $2.

The store will be open Sunday, but please remember Sunday is alcohol-free at Bele Chere.
