Thursday Tasting 3/10 5-7pm: Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Catawba Brewing

Posted in Beer, Breweries, Events, Goings on, Limited Release, New this week, Seasonals

peanut-butter-jelly-timeCome on down and join us for a tasting with our friends from Catawba Brewing Company! We’ll be tasting the overwhelmingly popular Peanut Butter Jelly Time along with a few Catawba standards, and maybe a surprise or two!

White Zombie – “We named this beer as a Halloween seasonal brew. But its refreshing taste makes it a year round staple. Zombie is made according to the Belgian Witbier tradition of using unmalted wheat to create the light body and white sheen. Additions of coriander and orange peel give Zombie a fruity and spicy character, while the hops are subtle and lightly detected. Don’t be scared to blow the head off a Zombie and drink up!”

Le Sexxxy Saison - “Once made to quench the thirst of farm workers in Belgium, this unique brew is now available in the city. LeSexxxy flirts with your eyes as the pale orange glow emanates from the glass. Our exclusive blend of five Belgian yeast strains produces aromas of lemon, tangerine, pear, banana, spice, bread and cut grass. The flavor is a French kiss of honey, citrus, spicy yeast, hops and wheat bread. This beer finishes bone dry and begs for another sip. Yeah, we brought sexy back – in a beer!”

Astral Bootie IPA – “Bootie beers are a whitewater kayaking tradition where a paddler drinks beer out of their water shoe after flipping in a rapid and has to swim out of the boat. Catawba teamed up with the Astral Designs, a local manufacturer of the best paddling shoes on the market, to create the ultimate Asheville Bootie Beer. The result is the new Astral Bootie Beer – a sessionable IPA that delivers full flavor at a reasonable 4.5% ABV. Catawba used three different grains to build a suitable malt base, and balanced it with 40 IBU’s, adding several different hop varieties for dry hopping, including Citra and Amarillo, to give bright tropical fruit notes with stone fruit undertones. So next time you’re on the river and have to unexpectedly swim…make sure you have a can of Astral Bootie Beer close by.”

Rediculous Red IPA – “The first recipe from our assistant brewer, James, this Rediculous Red IPA turns standard India Pale Ale on its ear. Our brewers shore-up this brew with copious amount of crystal malt to create a sturdy red color and malty canvas. Then they paint a masterpiece of hop character using ridiculous amounts of Cascade and Citra hops both in the boil and in cold-conditioning. One sip will make you say ‘This thing is RED-iculously delicious!’”

Peanut Butter Jelly Time – “Remember when your mom packed a PB&J sandwich in your lunchbox? The flavors all melded into pure comfort food by noon! Well, we recreated this childhood goodness in a beer. This light brown ale is brewed from five different grains and then aged for weeks on raspberries and roasted peanuts. Take a sip, let flavors mingle on your palate, and enjoy our PB&J in a glass.”
