Thursday Tasting, 4/17: Green Flash Brewing

Posted Apr 16, 2014 in Beer, Breweries, Events, Seasonals

We’ve got the West Coast coming in tomorrow for our weekly tasting, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Green Flash Brewery is in the house! Here’s what’s in the line-up. FREE. (The perfect way to start your happy hour.)

Friendship Brew: “Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.” [5.7% abv]

Rayon Vert: “If Green Flash were founded in historical Belgium, Rayon Vert would have been our flagship brew. A bold layering of hops finds balance from traditional malts. Bottle conditioning with fresh ale yeast and Brettanomyces finishes the beer, adding a delightful effervescence, dryness and continuously evolving character. Rayon Vert is Green Flash.” This beer is being retired. Get it while you can! [7.0% abv]

West Coast: “This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.” [7.3% abv]

Road Warrior: “Road Warrior is an Imperial Rye IPA inspired by our sales team who tirelessly trek coast to coast, town to town, pub to pub, sharing the Green Flash Experience. Brewed with Columbus hops, rich crystal and rye malts, then dry-hopped with Mosaic, it is the perfect reward for their endless effort and your personal triumps. Hungwah!” [9.0% abv]

Palate Wrecker: “Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy.” [9.5% abv]

NC Beer Month Thursday Tasting, 4/10, 5-7pm: Pisgah Brewing Co.

Posted Apr 09, 2014 in Beer, Breweries, Events, Limited Release, New this week, Seasonals

pisgah-brewing-co-pisgah-baptistaPisgah Brewing is cranking out the beers for NC Beer Month! Join us tomorrow evening in the wee Tasting Room for a sampling of Pisgah Brewing’s specialty beers and the pre-release (and the long-awaited return) of Pisgah Baptista.

Metanoia: “A pale wild ale, inoculated with wild yeast and matured in oak casks for nearly a year. Flavors of sour grape skins meld with champagne-like effervescence yielding to a soft malted finish in our first patiently awaited sour experiment.” [5.6% abv]

Vortex I: “The hoppiest beer in Buncombe County!  With over 3.5 grams of four distinct varieties of super high alpha hops per glass, lupulin lovers rejoice! Triple Pale Ale!” [9.2% abv]

Chocolatized Vortex II: Pisgah’s big and beautiful Vortex II imperial stout made with organic chocolate nibs from French Broad Chocolate Lounge. Think of it as liquid chocolate. [11.2% abv]

Baptista: “This Belgian-style Noel takes its name from Jan Baptista Van Helmont, the Flemish chemist and physician who first discovered CO2 and coined the word ‘gas’ by recognizing the existence of gases distinct from air.  This energy luminary was the founder of pneumatic chemistry and also the first to bridge alchemy and early chemistry.  Hats off to the man behind the bubble! Made with homemade candy sugar.” [11.5% abv]
