Saturday Tasting with Don Chartier of Lagunitas Brewing, 4-6pm

Posted in Beer, Beer Places, Breweries, Coolness, Events, Limited Release, People, Seasonals

We get excited when brewery people are in town!

Tomorrow, we welcome Don Chartier, Northern Hemispherical Vice Captain for Supply Vectored Marketing Analysis, of Lagunitas Brewing Co.. He will be our host for tomorrow’s Lagunitas Tasting with a most excellent line-up of beers. We hear that Don has the monikker “Mr. Nice Guy” and after briefly meeting him yesterday, we can indeed confirm that. Don has worked for several other big-name breweries before landing at Lagunitas—Fullsail, Bridgeport, and Sweetwater to name a few. (Note: He also promptly bought a $5 Sweetwater fish for the annual Save The French Broad campaign.)

Here’s what is going down tomorrow in the Tasting Room, 4:00-6:00 p.m.:

New Dogtown Pale: “We at the Lagunitas Brewing Company hope you enjoy this genuinely handmade ale. A lot of hard work and enthusiasm go into every aspect of brewing this Mondo Ultra Mega Super Premium Ale. From building the brewery itself to putting the cap on each and every bottle, virtually every step was done by hand.” [6.2% abv]

IPA: “Thanks for choosing to spend the next few minutes with this special homicidally hoppy ale. Savor the moment as the raging hop character engages the imperial qualities of the Malt foundation in mortal combat on the battlefield of your palate!” [6.2% abv]

Hop Stoopid: “For those mornings when you have to cut right to the chase, this is the one. Sure to blast through just about anything still lingering from the night before, this mouthful of Hops and huge rich Malt has a gaurantee built right into the name!” [8.0% abv]

WTF (Wilco Tango Foxtrot): “This Beer was Supposed to Follow Up the 2009 Correction Ale with the Name ‘2010 Recovery Ale’, And Here in 2011 it STILL Doesn’t Look Like We’ll Be There Anytime Soon. Wonderin & wonderin’….. WTF?” [7.83% abv]

Lucky 13: “Plenty of light roasted malt to keep it rich and mega-dosed with loads of hoppy-sweet and spicy amarillo goodness to keep it on the edge… We lightened up the color on our favorite gal! Do you like Betty or Veronica?” [8.9% abv]

Investigative Undercover Shutdown: “Our oxymoronic ‘Imperial Mild’ – A redux to remember the ’05 St. Paddy’s Day Massacre. Defiant as to style … We Can say for sure it is unforgiven and unrepentant.” [9.7% abv]

Thursday Tasting: Summery Belgians!

Posted Jun 08, 2011 in Beer, Beer Pairings, Breweries, Events

The heat just won’t go away, so this week we’re sampling some lighter, summery Belgian beers that pair perfectly with your finds at the farmer’s market! Join us Thursday, June 9, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Caracole Troublette: An artisanal Wallonian white ale. Lightly spiced wheat beer of great complexity, starts off with aroma of mangoes, apples, citric fruit, wheat, yeast and finishes with slight sourness.

St. Bernardus Wit: A traditional Belgian white beer developed and brewed in collaboration with the late legendary Master Brewer Pierre Celis. This ale is very pale and quite hazy. The head is white and dense. In aroma, it has a wheaty, apple-like, tartness; herbal-spicy notes with coriander and orange fruitiness and honey sweetness.

Saison Dupont: Bottle-conditioned summer-fruited treasure flaunts heavy carbonation, champagne head, cloudy pale body, aromatic floral hops, and rustic barley-oats base. Finish remains dry, silky, and elegant.

Dupont Foret: Organically produced bottle-conditioned ale with cloudy yellow hue, puffy beige head, bubbly champagne flow, and white wine sweetness. Lively deep-grained hop bitterness counteracts tart fruit twist and champagne pop as well as flowery spices.
