Something for everyone!

Something for everyone!
Bill at The Satellite Gallery informed us on the way in today that they’re totally jack-hammering our sidewalk out front. Now they’ve got the CAT, trying to pry up more sidewalk. It is literally shaking our building. And did I mention loud? What the hell?
Awesome timing, City of Asheville! Thanks! Just a notice would have been nice, considering we have a beer store and it’s Memorial Day Weekend.
But, thankfully, our peeps don’t care cuz they’re cool like that, and they’re just coming right in, stocking up for Memorial Day Weekend. So, speaking of, here our the newbies this week:
CAPITAL BREWING Blonde Doppelbock
GREAT DIVIDE Belgica*
GREAT DIVIDE Dunkel Weiss*
GREAT DIVIDE Saison*
PISGAH LEAF Amber* (22oz)
SIERRA NEVADA Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale*
SMUTTYNOSE Imperial Maibock*

WEYERBACHER Double Simcoe 750ml (with cork and cage! whee!)
Y’all, have a great three-day weekend! Be safe!
This comes via @brookston today. (Or Brookston Beer Bulletin.) Hee hee.

Bye-bye, old eye sore!
Scrutiny Hooligans reports that the ugly-ass electric sign at Pack Place is coming down. “The sign will be removed in the next few weeks because the electronic equipment that produced changeable text and graphics no longer works, and repairs would be too expensive, the head of Pack Place’s board said Wednesday.” So, go make the most of it and use the Pack Place Sign Generator before it’s too late!
Beer tasting: Be there!
Don’t forget! Magic Hat at the humble storefront tonight from 5-7pm. We’re tasting the Summer Scene sampler.
It’s just “Beer Y’all!”
The premiere of “Beer Y’all” is tonight at Asheville Brewing on Merrimon Ave. We still have $5 tickets available at the store. ($7 at the door) Come for the tasting and let’s go see a movie!
Re: Federal Beer Excise Action Alert
Sin taxes are the new black! More on the stuff we posted yesterday. This time from The American: “Hate the Sin, Tax the Sinner?” Great read. “It’s time to stop this nonsense. Whatever economic or social benefits one can dream up from the sin tax, we must also realize that the decision to tax must be weighed against the social benefits for reducing the behavior by slow and deliberate persuasion and voluntary action. When it comes to public policy, the preferred method of discouraging sin should fall under the category of alternative, mediating institutions, notably family, church, and school. That would leave government officials more time to focus on the sins they can really do something about—their own.”

A tripling of the beer tax here in the US is something that would impact all of us. Please read the following Action Alert from the Beer Institute. If you’re in opposition of the proposed federal excise tax increase, take immediate action by contacting your member of Congress and Senators, and express that any raise in alcohol taxes would have a severe economic impact; see talking points below.

ACTION ALERT–FEDERAL EXCISE TAX
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Charles Grassley (R-IA) held a hearing on Tuesday, May 12th on Financing Comprehensive Healthcare Reform. Senator Baucus invited healthcare policy experts, tax policy experts, and economists to join Finance Committee members to discuss the tax and savings options that the Committee should consider as it works to craft a healthcare reform bill. Senators and experts discussed a wide variety of ideas for looking for funding within and outside the healthcare system, including proposals by two of the witnesses to triple the beer tax and to find savings to pay for healthcare.
It is imperative that you call your member of Congress and your Senators, especially if they are on the Senate Finance Committee and weigh-in on the devastating impact ANY increase on the federal excise tax on beer would have on your business.
