As posted earlier this week, we told you that Ommegang brewed a special single-batch called Obamagang which was reputed by regulators and thus renamed Inauguration Ale 2009. Turns out a quick Google search on “beer inauguration” comes up with a ton of goodies. We don’t ever recall beer playing such a role in the inauguration. Or, we weren’t paying as much attention. There’s InaugurAle in D.C. HopObama, which came out back in March during campaign season. For such an historic time, it’s no surprise that places are willing to take risks. Beernews.org has a great overview of this phenomenon (if you will). And notes that the TTB is actually cracking down on the Obama beers. Laws aside—and we’re not saying break them—we think it’s pretty cool to see all this excitement spreading into the beer world. Is it geniune excitement or just another way of cashing in? Who knows? And, really, who cares.
