A little bit o’ news straight from Drew, head brewer at French Broad Brewing Company. They’ve got some new things in the works.

French Broad Brewing Co.is getting bombed…AGAIN!
French Broad Brewing Co.is proud to announce the release of its second bottled product, Dunkel-Witte. Dunkel-Witte is a Belgian inspired Dunkelweizen. It has been out for only a few weeks and has already made its way to the #16 spot of Ratebeer.com’s Dunkelweizens.

On the heels of the Dunkel-Witte release, French Broad will be bottling its most popular beer, the Wee Heavy-er. Unlike previous bottled products from French Broad, this malty Scottish style ale will be available in bottles year-round. Also, the cult classic 13 Rebels ESB will make its way to bottles. Expect to see these two on store shelves by the end of May. The initial release will be limited to Asheville, but both beers are likely to move into other markets very soon.

News from the draft front …
Two new draft selections will be released in the coming weeks. The first will be French Broad’s Re-Session Ale. With the rising cost of just about everything, French Broad has attempted to ease the stress by offering Re-Session Ale, a truly sessionable cream ale. With lower alcohol (just over 4.0% abv) and lower production cost, French Broad is serving up competitively-priced pint of handcrafted beer. Call it our own little economic stimulus package.

The second spring draft release will be French Broad’s Berliner-Weisse. This style was once referred to as “the Champagne of the North ” by Napoleon ’s troops. After a year conditioning in the tanks, this sour German wheat beer will be on tap at the brewery’s tasting room starting at the beginning of June. This beer is perfect for those hot summer months. The Berliner-Weisse will be served with your choice of syrup, ranging from the traditional raspberry and woodruff, to lemon, pomegranate, and triple-sec (flavored syrup, not the alcohol).

“Re-Session Ale.” Ah, so clever. Show me another town that has a true Berliner-Weisse style with syrup in a city our size. Dare you. Asheville Beer Blog has the stats.

[Attention local bloggers: Many of you don't like Berliner-Weisse. Think last year's Blogaversapaloozathon. I say that with sincere intentions. And paranoia. But, hey, give it a try anyway. It's FBB.]
