Elliot Brew

Elliot Brew is a tidy little hop bomb and a collaboration between brewers De Struise and Mikkeller. Fans of hoppy Belgians like Piraat, Houblon Chouffe, and Alvinne Gaspar will love this beer. And given that Mikkeller actually brews in the new American tradition, even domestic hop heads can kick back one of these. (It’s actually classified on BeerAdvocate as an American Double IPA.) Elliot Brew’s label says that this puppy clocks in at a whopping 130 IBUs. (What’s an IBU?) That’s hoppier than even Dogfish Head 120 Minute. Being that human tastebuds can’t taste much over 85 IBUs, it seems futile, but it’s worth it just to see what it does to your palette. Word to the wise, though, don’t have this as your first beer of the evening or you won’t taste anything else. Surprisingly smooth for both IBUs and its 9.0%abv, if you love hops, make friends with Elliot.
