Perkuno’s Thunder
Above is something we thought we’d never see in our cellar. We don’t beer trade except in person, rather relying on the few road trips we get each year to purchase things we can’t get in NC. Loyal customer, Scott W., gave us one of the last vintages of the famed Perkuno’s Hammer by the now defunct Heavyweight Brewing Company. This year, Victory Brewing Co. did a clone of the beer and called it Baltic Thunder, a homage to its style, a baltic porter. (Thanks to Deaune for grabbing the brew and to UncleJedi for delivering to us.) Asheville Beer Blog reported last year that this beer might find its way to NC, but alas, it was “not offered to us.”

New Holland to enter the market
Our beer spies tell us that New Holland Brewing Co. is slated to enter the market as soon as the end of February. Michigan brewers have not disappointed around these parts, i.e. Jolly Pumpkin and Bell’s. New Holland would be a welcomed addition. We really enjoy the Dragon’s Milk and Black Tulip. Now we’re just waiting to hear about that other Michigan brewery.

New Beer of the Month
We know, we know. It’s halfway through February. We’ve been fighting a cold for over a week and admittedly this here website and bloggy have suffered. But we just named Avec les Bons VÅ“ux our new Beer of the Month. Before you all write to tell us it’s a holiday seasonal, we know that. But it’s still winter, we still love it, and we still have some. So should you. Besides, this is currently the favorite brew of our friends at Sugar Momma’s. Go on, drink it with a cookie!
