MEBA’s Bill goes to Finance Committee tomorrow

MEBA (Mississippians for Economic and Beverage Advancement) have gotten a Senate Bill introduced that would raise the ABW cap from 5% to 17%. The bill will go before committee on Thursday. According to this thread on BeerAdvocate, the Malt Beverage Association in the state has been instructed to “kill the bill.” It is claimed that the MBA is nothing more than a lobbyist for distributors, most of which belong to A-B. A-B is really putting the screws to Alabama and Mississippi, which are possibly/likely/surely their two last bastions across the country. (Free the Hops responded like this.) Further, it seems a certain Senator Dean Kirby, head of the Finance Committee that will review the bill, is trying to stop it before it even goes to vote.

If you’re ever through Mississippi, be sure to pick-up some Lazy Magnolia brews. UncleJedi brought us a Southern Pecan the other week and it was pretty tasty.
