If you celebrate Valentine’s Day, at least do it with originality and class. The world can do without prepackaged chocolates from CVS. Moreso, don’t reach for the obligatory champagne just yet—we have some recommendations for you:

The bubblies:
DeUs—They call it Brut des Flanders. Brewed in Belgium. Finished in France. No other beer like it.
Malheur Dark Brut—A darker, sparkling biere de champagne.
Bell’s Sparkling Ale—American spin on a Belgian Tripel. Extra bubbles.

The sweet girls:
Boon Framboise—A true fruit lambic from one of Belgium’s last remaining lambic producers. Serve with fresh raspberries in a champagne flute.
Haansens Oudbeijte—Strawberry lambic from the last independent lambic blender. Serve with strawberry shortcake or sorbet.
Kasteel Rouge—A Belgian fruit beer that’s not a lambic. Belgian brune aged with sour cherries for six months. Sinfully delicious. Serve with chocolate-covered cherries.

The naughty boys:
JW Lees Harvest Ale (Port Cask)—A barleywine aged in Willoughby’s “Reserve Blend” port cask. Complex and warming. Perfect with truffles.
Nogne-O Imperial Stout—Dark, thick, and bitter, this imperial stout from Norway would make a czar proud. Serve with a blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
Southampton Imperial Porter—This award-winning seasonal comes just in time. A baltic porter in style, serve this with some creamy caramel ice cream.
