The Satellite Gallery has some very cool urban graffiti works on exhibit right now with Off the Trains, Off the Streets. Here’s what Satellite Bill has to say about it:

This is to showcase art from the streets. To show that graffiti is something beautiful when shown in the right context. It is not just vandalistic, but is a pure form of art through expression of the self. It is stark reality in the urban atmosphere. Humans have been expressing themselves through graffiti for thousands of years, it is our first art form … primal. The Satellite Gallery wishes to show that. Off the Trains, Off the Streets is Asheville’s first graffiti based show in a gallery. Its new contemporary vision and ideas are at the forefront of a new Asheville.

We bought a nifty little piece called Cathedral on Friday at the opening. Fun, fun stuff. Check it out. 55 Broadway, just across from the store.
