Ad regulators in Europe are much more lax

Dad A sends us this funny ad from Schneider Brewery today. Clearly, this would never fly in the US.

A day of visiting beer people

Fun stuff! We had both Oscar Wong, owner of Asheville’s own Highland Brewing Company visit today, as well as Bob Townsend, who writes for both the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but more importantly (to us, anyway), as editor of Southern Brew News.

Bob wrote the story about The Brick Store Pub’s tenth anniversary, which we just posted about yesterday. Weird!

Here, doggie, doggie, doggie

Two new Dogfish Head beers are here today, Festina Peche and Immort Ale. There’s only one case of Immort Ale, so as per the usual rarity, ask us. If we still have some, it’s yours.

From Dogfish:

Festina Peche (new for 2007): A refreshing neo-BerlinerWeisse fermented with honest-to-goodness peaches to (get this!) 4.5% abv! Because extreme beers don’t have to be extremely boozy! Available in 4-pack and draft during the sweaty months.

Immort Ale: Vast in character, luscious & complex. Brewed with peat-smoked barley, this strong ale is brewed with organic juniper berries, vanilla & maple syrup. It’s aged on oak and fermented with a blend of English & Belgian yeasts. (11% abv)

Beer on a stick?

Well, look at that. It’s a beer popsicle from Rustico, an Alexandria, Va. restaurant. And, naturally, regulators and the ABC are crying foul.

Chef Frank Morales makes the popsicles by cooking the beer with bits of fruit and a liquid that he calls his secret ingredient. …

But Alexandria’s Alcoholic Beverage Control regulators say there’s plenty wrong. They say beer popsicles are illegal because beer must be served directly from its original container or right from the tap. …

Rustico is promising to play by regulators rules, but if they allow the popsicles, the chef says he’ll be adding Beer Banana Splits and Peanut Butter and Beer Jelly sandwiches to the menu.

Let the MADDness begin. We get it, we really do. Kids like popsicles, but does that mean adults don’t? At any rate, it does deliver some fun ideas about things to do with your beer. Make your own!

Southampton is here, among others

Southampton sessions have arrived! The IPA and Secret (Altbier) are here, however the Double White has been sent back to be relabeled and should arrive in just a few weeks.

Also new this week is Great Divide Hades, a Belgian strong golden ale.
