Warm fuzzies
Posted May 19, 2007 in Breweries, People
Every once in a while in the beer world, a brewer does something that give us warm fuzzies, as is the case today with a forum post on BeerAdvocate.
BA lists Geuze Boon and Geuze Oude Boon as two separate beers. I wondered if they were in fact the same with two different lables and sent an email message to the brewery. I received a nice reply from Frank Boon describing the beers he brewed and stating that the two were in fact one and the same.
A few days later I received a Fed Ex Package which I thought contained books from a publisher. Upon opening it I discovered that it contained a note from Frank Book, 1 bottle of Oude Geuze Boon Mariage Parfait, 1 bottle of Oude Kriek Boon, 1 bottle of Gueue Boon, and a Geuze Boon glass. The note said the best way to learn the difference in the beers was to taste them.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive a reply from the brewer. I am overwhelmed to get the package and look forward to drinking them.
Cheers to Frank Boon and his traditional Lambics!

The Travel Channel’s Taste of America with Mark DeCarlo is doing a bit on Dogfish Head in an upcoming episode on Tuesday, May 22 at 8:00pm. It’s sure to be a short bit, as the half-hour show also covers Charleston, SC and Vermont, but if you’ve never been to the brewery, you can have a peak.

For Father’s Day, Rogue has a limited beer called Dad’s Little Helper. So clever! But where is Mommy’s Little Helper? Mommies drink beer, too, sometimes. (You know who you are.)
From the bottle:
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the First Father’s Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fathers Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.
