UK bans “Rubbel Sexy Lager”

Filed under: In the news — Posted by Julie @ 11:21 am

Straight out of the Overreaction Department, Brouwerij Huyghe—the Belgian brewers of Delirium fame—has gone and got the UK all crazy, or least violated The Portman Group’s Code of Practice on the Naming, Packaging and Promotion of Alcoholic Drinks. (What?) Huyghe’s Rubbel Sexy Lager has been banned in the UK. This isn’t the first time a beer has been banned. (Remember Santa’s Butt?) But this is the first time a scratch-off bathing suit has!

In what (we think) is a very funny piece of 80’s pin-up nostalgia, Rubbel Sexy Lager features four different labels of women in bathing suits that can be scratched-off (NSFW) to reveal a full nude. We share a language with the UK, but we honestly have no idea what this means:

Buckinghamshire Trading Standards complained to the drinks watchdog which ruled the name of the drink and the swimsuit feature were associated with sexual success.

While the Santa’s Butt hysteria was mainly an issue over its label being silly and possibly appealing to children, The Portman Group’s reason for pulling this product seems completely unrelated to the fact that Rubbel Sexy Lager will never in a million years appeal to thousands of randy British boys. They (more or less) say that beer, by nature, makes you do things you will regret and the naked woman is only going to make it worse.

And, no, we do not have this beer.
