Spring has sprung today with an 80-degree weekend ahead of us. Sweet! That means the winter beer has to go and we’ve got a little bit left. Help us clear it out for our new spring seasonals!

So, we’re offer $1.00 off the following: Brooklyn Winter Ale (6-pk scotch ale), Samual Adams Winter Lager (6-pk), Bell’s Winter White Ale (6-pk), Left Hand Snowbound (22oz), and Bison’s Winter Warmer (22oz).

Get ‘em while you can!

Sneaky

Anheuser-Busch is at it again, masquerading their beer as craft beer. Ugh. This is called Wild Hop Ale and it’s organic. We feel it’s our duty to warn you so can avoid this scam at all costs. They’re not brewing under the A-B name either. This is conveniently brewed under the moniker Green Valley Brewing. This is just about the same as tricking people into thinking that Blue Moon is a craft beer. (Or worse, from Belgium!) Or that Killian’s Irish Red is really Irish. Both are brewed by Coors. But you won’t see that on the label either.

If you want a good organic brew, support the folks at Eel River, Butte Creek or Wolaver’s to name a few.

Hop it up

UK Brewer Greene King is introducing a new beer called “Hop.” We sell their Old Speckled Hen and the Olde Suffolk at Bruisin’ Ales. From the press release:

The ale brand, called Hop, is set to launch this month and will be available in 750ml bottles. It will be aimed at the 30-something male. The drink has a 5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and will sit alongside speciality beers from Europe.

But the best part is what their marketing person has to say:

“In a year where market analysts AC Nielsen reported no growth in wine sales for the first time, we believe speciality beer sales will grow even further.”

Hoo-ray! We did not know this. Here’s to beer!

Microsoft pulls a beer bribe

Filed under: Beer, In the news — Posted by Julie @ 11:29 am

Microsoft in the UK has been doing some guerilla marketing to demonstrate the price difference between the XBox and the PS3. They are shipping beer in the amount of £146 to gamers across England. Granted, it’s just Fosters (which, by the way, NO ONE in Australia drinks), but still…

Read about it here and here. Funny stuff.

32 Things You Can Do With Beer!

Today is a good day. Not only are we having our third in-store tasting this afternoon (details here), we have proof-positive that there are people who read our blog that aren’t my mother, my in-laws, and old friends.

Our local beer pal and fellow BA member, who shall be known only as jmichaelk, sent us the most astounding article this morning from Men’s Health: 32 Things You Can Do with Beer! (The funniest is on page one where “Steam Clams and Mussels” is immediately followed by “Pass a Kidney Stone.” Are they related?)

Below are just a few of these off-the-wall fun beer doings:

• Clear up brown spots on your lawn
• Kill slugs (my mother has known this one for YEARS)
• Find due North
• Lower your blood pressure
• Calm an upset stomach
• Stop snoring
• Scale fish
