Cruisin’ to Bruisin’ Ales

Posted in Events

Bruisin’ Ales has made a fun and friendly alliance with some other beerlanthropists in town, Mark and Trish Lyons, of Brews Cruise. Currently, Brews Cruise will make weekend stops at our store on Friday and Saturay nights between French Broad Brewing and the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company. Times will vary. We pair light snacks with 2oz samples of two select beers for our cruisers.

We celebrate the brew in you and are happy to have you onboard.

For more info, contact Brews Cruise at 828/ 545-5181.

Hoppity Hop Hop

hopcones

Super hoppy is all the rage right now, as we beer-lovers know. So what is the deal with hops anyway? Are they just for beer? Do they do anything other than produce that green, fresh taste?

According to Beer & Health, there are many medicinal properties of the hop plant and it has enjoyed a variety of uses over the years:

“The plant was used to treat hypersensitivity, nervous anxiety, depression, cramps, neuralgia, migraine and even obesity. Hops were also supposed to produce antiseptic, antibiotic, analgesic, moisture repellant, tuberculostatic and anaphrodisiac effects. The use of hops in modern medicine is limited to the sedative effect of the hop cones. Although the mechanism of this effect remains unexplained, various studies have shown that hops do in fact have a mildly tranquillizing effect and induce sleep.”
